About the IBA
| The IBA match format includes three doubles
matches and six singles matches. For each match, teams will
determine their #1 doubles team, #2 doubles team, #3 doubles team,
and will also determine the order of the singles players. All
matches are the best two out of three games, with rally scoring to 21. Team
members are allowed to play doubles and singles. Coaching is
permitted as long as it does not interfere with play. A
minimum of three courts are required. Doubles matches are
played first, followed by the singles matches. Additional
regulations are listed on the Rules page. Three are four IBA regions: West Region, Central Region, Northeast Region and Southeast Region. In February of 2008, IBA Regional Tournaments will be held to determine which teams will play in the IBA Championships. The men's and women's IBA Championships will be played at one location, and the IBA will provide each qualifying team with a stipend to help defray travel expenses. For the 2007-2008 school year, membership fees of $50.00 per team (separate men's and women's teams) will be required during the fall semester. There are no entry fees for the IBA Regional Tournaments or the IBA Championships. Membership fees that are collected will be used for IBA Regional Tournament trophies and IBA Championships expenses, including travel stipends for qualifying teams. In addition to becoming members of the IBA, all teams participating in IBA Regional Tournaments must play two dual matches (versus other member teams) before the IBA Regional Tournament. Teams will schedule their own matches from the list of schools on the Members page, and two matches played against the same school is permitted. Results of dual matches will be used for regional rankings and seedings for IBA Regional Tournaments. IBA member teams are not required to participate in IBA Regional Tournaments. IBA Regional Tournament winners are not required to participate in the IBA Champiosnhips. The IBA Championships will be a four team draw. If an IBA Regional Tournament winner does not enter the IBA Championships, the berth will be offered to the second place team. If the second place team does not accept the berth, the offer will be made to the host team of the IBA Championships. If there are any additional unfilled berths, the IBA will make wild-card offers to other teams (based on rankings). All IBA member teams that play at least one dual match will be ranked.
