Purdue University and University of Kentucky
win 2008 IBA Great Lakes Regional

The Purdue University men’s badminton team won the Intercollegiate Badminton Association (IBA) Great Lakes Regional with wins over Valparaiso University, the University of Cincinnati and Indiana University.  The event was held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Indiana University in Gary, Indiana.

The IBA format is identical to college tennis, with nine points at stake.  Three matches are played in men’s doubles and three matches are played in men’s singles.  The Purdue team outclassed Valparaiso 8-1 in the first match and swept Cincinnati 9-0 to set up the championship match against Indiana.

Although Milo Chan and Anuj Sharm lost the number one men’s doubles match to Indiana, the Purdue duos of Kamesh Puthur Loganathan-Golden Huang and Kuok Shin Teo-Han Kristanto won at second and third doubles to give Purdue a 2-1 lead.  Kamesh Puthur Loganathan, Hans Kristanto, Kuok Shin Teo and Anuj Sharma then won their singles matches to give Purdue a 6-3 victory.

The Purdue men’s badminton team is now ranked #1 in the IBA Great Lakes region rankings with a 3-0 record, followed by Indiana at #2 with a 4-1 record.

In women's action, the University of Kentucky defeated Valparaiso University 6-3.

The nation’s top-ranked men’s and women’s badminton teams will compete in the IBA Championships at Indiana University Northwest on April 12.
